A Comic A Day #31

This is an interesting concept that has some funny results – following the conclusion of the AvX: Versus series, where a member of the Avengers would fight a member of the X-Men, Marvel decided to pair them working together.  Dan Slott’s entry, with Captain America and Cable joining forces during World War 2, is clever and amusing, with a number of in-jokes.  The second half, with Hulk and Wolverine fighting Old Man Logan and Old Hulk, isn’t as good, but still interesting (even if Wolverine is more on the Avengers side than the X-men’s).

The Avengers – The Search For She-Hulk Part 4

A Comic A Day #30 It’s shocking to realize that within six months the Avengers side of the Marvel universe will turn in such a dramatic fashion, with Brian Michael Bendis taking over the Avengers and Ed Brubaker taking over Captain America.  Their stories are…

The Avengers – The Search For She-Hulk Part 3

A Comic A Day #29 This issue is so terrible – rampant sexism, mansplaining, a literal lightbulb popping-up above Hawkeye’s head, Bruce Banner showing up in the middle of the woods, and a number of random events towards the end involving the Avengers. …

The Avengers – The Search For She-Hulk Part 2

A Comic A Day #28 This is the filler issue for the arc – we get the big smash-up fight between She-Hulk and the Avengers, which does not really advance the story.  Meanwhile, back in Manhattan, Ant-Man is dealing with being a divorced father and…

The Avengers – The Search for She-Hulk Part 1

A Comic A Day #27 This is an odd point for The Avengers, being written by Geoff Johns, who is primiarly known for his years of work on numerous DC titles.  His stories tend to be overwrought and grandiose, so it will be interesting to…

The Hulk and Power Man and Iron Fist

A Comic A Day #26 This is pretty standard, goofy late-’70’s Marvel fare.  It is also a typical annual edition – jammed with characters, pointless character cameos (Spider-Man just swings by), and good guys fighting each other due to a misunderstanding, then eventually coming together…

Captain America – The Initiative No. 28

A Comic A Day #25 The Red Skull has fully infiltrated S.H.I.E.L.D., with his daughter, Sin, posing as Tony Stark’s most-trusted agent, and Dr. Faustus brainwashing agents.  In the meantime, Bucky is being hunted by Falcon and Agent 13, while he hunts Red Skull.  There…

Captain America – The Initiative No. 27

A Comic A Day #24 I forgot to mention it yesterday, but Steve Epting’s art in this series is great.  It adds a gritty realism to a darker, updated Captain America.  As a Bucky fan, this issue is really enjoyable – he is fighting against…

Captain America – The Initiative No. 26

A Comic A Day #23 Ed Brubaker’s era of Captain America comics is amazing and this issue is no exception.  In the post-Civil War fallout, everyone surrounding Steve Rogers is trying to find how to cope and possibly reconcile.  At the same time, Red Skull…

    Bishop No. 2

A Comic A Day #22 Like a number of the comics that I have selected thus far, this is another issue from just before the start of the Age of Apocalypse.  A nemesis of Bishop’s from the future has shown up in New York, leading…
